Cheese Fish and Chips

Here’s a kid-friendly recipe for cheese fish and chips that’s simple and fun to make. This version uses cheese to add extra flavor and appeal for kids!

Ingredients:

For the Cheese Fish:
– 2 large fish fillets (like cod or haddock)
– 1 cup breadcrumbs (you can use panko for extra crunch)
– 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or your favorite cheese)
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 egg
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Optional: paprika or garlic powder for extra flavor

For the Chips:
– 2 large potatoes
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– Salt to taste
– Optional: garlic powder or paprika for seasoning

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Chips
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into thick sticks to make fries.
3. Place the potato sticks in a bowl and toss with olive oil, salt, and any additional seasonings you like.
4. Spread the potatoes on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden and crispy.

Step 2: Prepare the Cheese Fish
1. While the chips are baking, prepare the cheese fish.
2. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten egg (add a splash of water), and one with a mix of breadcrumbs and grated cheese.
3. Season the fish fillets with salt, pepper, and any other seasonings you like.
4. Dip each fish fillet into the flour, then into the egg, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb and cheese mixture, pressing gently to ensure it sticks well.
5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil.
6. Cook the breaded fish fillets for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through. You may also bake them on a lined baking sheet for about 15-20 minutes if you prefer a healthier option.

Step 3: Serve!
1. Once the chips are done, remove them from the oven.
2. Serve the cheesy fish with the chips on a plate. You can add a side of ketchup or tartar sauce for dipping.
