Chinese Vegetable Manchurian

Here’s a kids-friendly recipe for Chinese Vegetable Manchurian:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups shredded vegetables (cabbage, carrots, bell peppers)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 spring onion, chopped for garnish

For the Manchurian sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the shredded vegetables, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to combine the mixture and form small balls.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the vegetable balls into the oil and fry until they are golden brown. Remove the fried balls and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  3. In a separate pan, prepare the Manchurian sauce by combining soy sauce, ketchup, cornstarch, water, sugar, and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
  4. Once the sauce thickens, add the fried vegetable balls to the pan and gently toss them in the sauce until they are well coated.
  5. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve the Chinese Vegetable Manchurian hot.
