Homemade Fish Sticks

Here’s a simple and kid-friendly recipe for homemade fish sticks that you can make together with your little ones!

Ingredients:
– 1 pound (450g) white fish fillets (like cod, haddock, or tilapia)
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup breadcrumbs (you can use panko for extra crunch)
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Cooking oil (for baking or frying)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven: If you’re baking the fish sticks, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Fish: Cut the fish fillets into stick-shaped pieces, about 1 inch wide and 3 inches long.

3. Set Up Breading Stations:
   – In one shallow bowl, place the flour and season it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
   – In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
   – In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.

4. Coat the Fish:
   – Take each fish stick and first coat it in the flour, shaking off any excess.
   – Next, dip it into the beaten eggs.
   – Finally, roll it in the breadcrumbs until fully coated. Place the coated fish sticks on the baking sheet.

5. Bake or Fry:
   – For Baking: Drizzle a little cooking oil over the fish sticks or spray them lightly with cooking spray. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden and cooked through.
   – For Frying: Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the fish sticks in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

6. Serve: Let the fish sticks cool slightly before serving. They’re great with dipping sauces like ketchup, tartar sauce, or a homemade yogurt dip!

7. Enjoy: Serve with a side of veggies or fries for a complete meal!

Tips:
– You can add grated cheese to the breadcrumbs for extra flavor.
– Feel free to customize the spices based on your kids’ preferences.
– Involve your kids in the coating process; it’s a fun way to get them engaged in cooking!

Enjoy your homemade fish sticks!
