Ikan Bakar: Grilled Fish

Here’s a kid-friendly recipe for Ikan Bakar, a delicious grilled fish dish that is simple to make and packed with flavor. This version uses milder spices and is easy for kids to help with!

Kid-Friendly Ikan Bakar Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 whole fish (such as tilapia or snapper), cleaned and scaled
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional for a little color)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish: Rinse the fish under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Make three diagonal slashes on each side of the fish for better flavor absorption.
  2. Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, soy sauce, honey, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. This sweet and savory marinade will be perfect for kids!
  3. Marinate the Fish: Brush the marinade all over the fish, making sure to get it into the slashes. You can also let the fish marinate for 15-30 minutes in the refrigerator for more flavor.
  4. Preheat the Grill: If you’re using an outdoor grill, preheat it to medium heat. If you’re using an indoor grill or grill pan, heat it on medium-high heat.
  5. Grill the Fish: Place the fish on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Make sure to brush a little extra marinade on while grilling for added flavor.
  6. Serve: Remove the fish from the grill and let it sit for a minute. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the fish.
  7. Enjoy: Serve with rice or a salad for a complete meal that kids will love!

Tips:

  • You can add more veggies like bell peppers or zucchini on the grill for a complete meal.
  • Kids can help brush on the marinade and squeeze the lemon!

Enjoy your delicious and healthy Ikan Bakar with your family!
