Mini Calzones
Here’s a simple and kid-friendly recipe for Mini Calzones:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound pizza dough
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices
- 1/4 cup finely chopped bell peppers
- 1/4 cup finely chopped mushrooms
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cooked sausage (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: additional marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the pizza dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a small circle, about 5-6 inches in diameter.
- Spread a spoonful of marinara sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
- Sprinkle a little shredded mozzarella cheese over the marinara sauce on each dough circle.
- Add a few mini pepperoni slices, chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, and cooked sausage (if using) on top of the cheese.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and press the edges together to seal. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
- Place the mini calzones on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with the beaten egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and crispy.
- Allow the calzones to cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve them with additional marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
