Pisang Goreng, Indonesian Fried Bananas

Here’s a kid-friendly recipe for Pisang Goreng, or Indonesian fried bananas. This delicious snack is easy to make and perfect for kids to help with!

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas (preferably plantains or any sweet bananas)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rice flour (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bananas:
  • Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise or into thick slices, depending on your preference.
  1. Make the Batter:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour (if using), sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, mixing until you have a smooth batter. It should be thick enough to coat the bananas but not too runny.
  1. Heat the Oil:
  • In a deep pan or skillet, heat about 1-2 inches of oil over medium heat. You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles, it’s ready!
  1. Coat the Bananas:
  • Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it is well coated.
  1. Fry the Bananas:
  • Carefully place the coated bananas into the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pan.
  • Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  1. Drain and Serve:
  • Once cooked, remove the bananas from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving.
  1. Enjoy:
  • Serve the Pisang Goreng warm, and you can sprinkle some powdered sugar on top for extra sweetness if you like!

Tips:

  • You can also serve Pisang Goreng with a side of honey or chocolate sauce for dipping.
  • Make sure to supervise kids while frying to ensure safety.

Enjoy making and eating this delicious treat together!
