Whole Wheat Veggie Momos
Here’s a simple and kid-friendly recipe for whole wheat momos:
Whole Wheat Veggie Momos
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup finely chopped mixed vegetables (carrots, cabbage, bell peppers, etc.)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Water for kneading
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water and knead the flour to form a smooth and firm dough. Cover the dough and set it aside for 15-20 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for a minute.
- Add the finely chopped onion and mixed vegetables to the pan. Stir-fry the vegetables for 2-3 minutes until they are slightly softened.
- Add soy sauce and salt to the vegetable mixture. Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool down.
- Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Roll out each ball into a thin, round sheet.
- Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center of each rolled-out dough circle. Then, bring the edges together and pleat to seal the momos.
- Place the momos on a greased steamer and steam them for about 10-12 minutes or until the outer covering looks slightly transparent.
- Serve the whole wheat veggie momos with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
This recipe is a healthy alternative to traditional momos and can be a fun and interactive cooking activity for kids.
