Chinese Spring Rolls

Here’s a kids-friendly recipe for Chinese spring rolls:

Ingredients:

  • 8 spring roll wrappers
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 1 cup cooked and shredded chicken or tofu
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the shredded cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, and cooked chicken or tofu.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, sugar, garlic powder, and ginger powder. Pour this over the vegetable and chicken/tofu mixture and toss to coat.
  3. Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon some of the vegetable and chicken/tofu filling onto the center of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling, then roll it up tightly, sealing the edges with a little water.
  5. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the spring rolls into the oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Remove the spring rolls from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  7. Serve the spring rolls with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce.
